It's time to check out the city's newest retail park.
Leeds is already the third best place to shop in the UK outside London, but now it’s set to get even better as The Springs prepares to open its doors.
It’s almost here – The Springs will officially open on Saturday 13th October 2018. The new £48 million retail park has been 2 years in the making, but it’s certainly worth the wait. They’ve already signed up a string of big name brands, including Next, River Island and Boots. But it’s not just shops – there’s a cinema, a gym and a host of restaurants too.
It’s all part of their masterplan for Thorpe Park. It already boasts 800,000 square foot of premium office space, but once complete, it’ll have more than double that, along with 300 new homes. And with The Springs at its heart, it’s set to become one of the most coveted developments in the city – especially once the East Leeds Orbital Road is finished. This new throughway will connect North and East Leeds to Junction 46 of the M1, where Thorpe Park is based.
The Springs wasn’t part of the original plan, but as the business community grew, they realised that there was nowhere for the employees to grab a sarnie on site. At first, they planned to build a Sainsbury’s superstore, but when the supermarket sector shifted towards smaller stores, they came up with something even better – a mixed-use retail and leisure development with a fashion-forward approach. From these humble beginnings, The Springs was born.
So, what have you got to look forward to? Well, the first thing you need to know about is their massive Next store. At 18,000 square foot, it’s an absolute beast of a shop and you can pick up everything from the latest ladies fashion to menswear, kids clothes and home accessories. That will sit alongside a 6,500 square foot River Island store, filled with 2018’s hottest trends.
Bargain lovers will be well catered for too because TK Maxx is taking up residence with its collection of brand name and designer products for up to 60% less. And if you need to get your high street fix, H&M promises everyday essentials at affordable prices, while the new Outfit will bring together Topshop, Topman, Miss Selfridge, Dorothy Perkins and Burton, all under one roof. There’s a Boots too, and at 15,000 square foot it’s one of the biggest in the UK, so you can shop for all your favourite hair and beauty brands, or pick up your prescription without heading into the city centre.
M&S Food is moving to Thorpe Park from nearby Cross Gates, so they’ve got those sarnies covered. But this is a 13,000 square foot store, where you can stock up on supplies for the week or grab a bottle of wine for later. And if you fancy eating out, celebrity chef Gino D’Acampo is bringing his My Restaurant to The Springs. You can tuck into classic Italian food, enjoy a glass of prosecco in the bar or relax with an authentic Neapolitan brew in his new My Coffee & Deli Bar.
Nando’s is coming to The Springs too. They’ll be whipping up their signature PERi-PERi chicken in a colourful restaurant decked out in original Southern African artworks, including a showcase piece of beaded art by Norman O’Flynn. And if you feel the need to work off those calories after, you can head to the new PureGym – they’re taking over a huge 17,000 square foot unit to create a vast gym with dedicated studios for classes.
But the jewel in The Springs’ crown won’t open until March. The new Odeon Luxe cinema will have 10 state-of-the-art screens, with pitch-perfect Dolby Atmos sound and flawless 4K projection. It’s the first and only cinema in East Leeds, so prepare to cosy up and watch the latest blockbusters in their luxurious, spacious seats.
That’s just the beginning. There are three more names to be announced in the coming weeks and they’ll be open before Christmas, with many more to follow, so The Springs is only going to get better.
